It's a constant struggle to keep up with our show schedule and keep our booth looking nice. The wear and tear that happens to our displays and our merchandise is amazing and it is hard to keep up with. It seems that we are constantly evolving with our booth display and we are always coming up with new and better ideas on how to transport and display stuff.
Here's our most current set up that is still being changed as we go....

This week I am spending some time renovating and transforming the cash register podium. It's pictured here in all of it's beat up black paint glory (you can click the picture for a closer look). It was starting to look really bad and it was driving me nuts. My husband built it custom for me out of scrap wood and it works perfectly...it takes up very little of the precious square footage I rent at shows and holds the cash register, credit card stuff, bags and office supplies. But after using it for 3 years, and transporting it to and from countless shows, it's starting to look really crappy. I thought that painting it black would give it a sleek, classy look but it quickly got beat up looking and showed dirt and dust like crazy.
This week I pulled it out of the trailer and brought it into the studio for a makeover. I'm on day two of the makeover and so far, I love the new look. I have given the podium a whole new lease on life with an antique ivory crackle paint technique. I have used the crackle paint medium before and not only does it look great, the crackle medium seems to harden the paint for a more durable finish, which is just what this hard working podium needs. I just finished adding a tea stain glaze to it which finishes off the antique look and shows the molding crevices beautifully. Later tonight I will give the whole thing a coat or two of protective poly and it will be ready to reveal it's new look at our show this weekend. Tomorrow I hope to share some before and after photos.... stay tuned!
I have a few other booth related things to take care of this week too. One of which is to either paint or stain the unfinished wood on our spinner shelves. I've been toting them around to shows unfinished for a while now and they need to get taken care of. I'm working with my husband trying to find some ideas for making them more functional to hold accessory products so that I can carry a larger stock to shows. If we get all this worked out this week I will feel like we accomplished a lot.
A lot goes into the planning and preparing for shows and I hope you enjoyed this little peak behind the scenes. Come back tomorrow to see the new podium pics!
